Serena Van Der Woodsen's Charlotte Webb talks to us here at Melbourne Street Fashion.com.
Charlotte arrived at my office a whole day late, but I forgave her because she is one of the most in demand new designers here in Melbourne and she has a lot of people hounding her for her time. As a shy 19 year old Charlotte comes across as very apologetic and sweet, but also as a savvy business women. And her shy personality is at a loss with what she is wearing and designing.
She has on a pair of Serena Van Der Woodsen floral Lycra leggings and a
floral Lycra bodysuit that just screams look at me, over the top of
that she wears an Alpha 60 baggy black cardigan and in her hair sits a
vintage floral hairpiece from Anonymous Posh, not to mention her tres
cool nerd glasses which she bought at Chapel Street Bazaar.
MSF: How did you come up with the name Serena van der Woodsen?
Serena van der Woodsen is a character from the TV show and books Gossip Girl which I got really into during year 12. Then I started making leggings at the end of the year and just needed a name. However I'd like to stick to the safe side now and not get sued, so I'm changing the label's name to my name, Charlotte Webb, which yes is my real name.
MSF: Why did you start the label?
It started as something to do as I didn't want to get a job, and it just turned into this huge amazing thing.
MSF: What do you make, specialise in?
Primarily I make leggings, and I hope
to expand into leotards.
MSF: Where are you stocked?
Kids in Berlin and Lenko. You can also buy online at my myspace or just contact me through my blog .
MSF: Where do you design and come up with
ideas for your collection?
At home in front of the TV.
MSF: Who or what inspires you?
I am very inspired by science fiction
and Barbarella, I love the whole genre and it's just so silly and funny. I just want to make it fun more than
anything.
MSF: What advice would you give to
someone who wants to start their one label?
Its surprisingly easy. I've got a much
better idea now as this all happened so fast. Basically if your not too stressed about it and you know who you are
selling too then you are half way there. Just be organised and set it up properly and don't forget to put yourself out
there and have a myspace.
